Juliet Benson
Merit Award
Juliet Benson is the Founder and Managing Director of the highly respected community law firm, J Benson Solicitors Ltd, a firm established in 2008 and also Managing Director of Benson Reeds Legal Practitioners, based in Lagos Nigeria. Juliet specialises in criminal, family, housing, prison law and conveyancing. She previously worked in the Ministry of Justice (UK) for 12 years and was involved in establishing the Proceeds of Crime Act which contributed to the curtailing of money laundering in the UK.
As part of her social responsibility acts to the community, Juliet regularly participates in pro-bono events, offering 2 hours of free legal advice every Saturday to persons who would otherwise not be entitled to services in the UK. These benevolence act also covers
- Financial assistance to widows and the less privileged children in Nigeria
- Legal adviser to the Central Association Nigeria (UK) and social secretary to British Nigerian Law Forum
- The Establishing of two Annual Legal Awareness days which in 2018 addressed the prevalence of human trafficking and in 2019 carried out an awareness programme on gunk and knife crime.
The initiatives helped to raise awareness on people’s rights and responsibilities in respect of these matters.
