CEO, Kaidy Engineering and Environmental Services Ltd

 

Engr Oladapo Sulu is an experienced chartered civil engineer, project manager and environmental manager and possess over 30 years of wide-ranging experience in the civil engineering profession.

He developed the interest in childhood from following his father, also a civil engineer, around various motorway construction sites in the north of England and Ibadan.

Engr Dapo Sulu holds the following qualifications:

  • BEng (Honours) Civil Engineering 1983 – Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Water Resources Engineering1992 – Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London
  • MSc Geomaterials 1995 – Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London
  • Postgraduate Certificate of Engineering Management 2001 – University of Bristol

He also possesses chartered membership of several UK and Nigerian engineering institutions and is also a fully qualified construction manager and possess extensive health and safety qualifications, possession of which is a basic requirement for continued employment in the highly regulated UK construction industry.

He recently set up an engineering consultancy practice with offices in London and Lagos, which acts as a base for operations in Nigeria. In addition to work within the engineering field, the organisation provides housing solutions for those who live abroad and wish to relocate back home.

Career to date

He served his NYSC in Osun state with Tahal Consultants (Nigeria) Ltd and worked as an Assistant Engineer on the Ifon-Ilobu Water Supply Scheme.

He then moved into engineering consultancy, working with Posford Duvivier (now Haskoning) in Peterborough, on various rivers and coastal engineering schemes, then via London Boroughs of Bexley (urban regeneration) and Camden (traffic management) to the Environment Agency as a project manager working on environmental management projects.

He was then employed by Costain UK as a geotechnical manager and headhunted by Costain West Africa plc in 2008 to work on the Tin Can Island refurbishment project, Lagos, and Watchtower Construction scheme, in Igieduma, Edo State.

After a stint working on the construction of Nigeria’s equivalent of Silicon Valley, California with Abuja Technology Village, as the Head of Construction Management, he had a highly challenging and interesting period, to say the least, working on the Lagos to Kano railway refurbishment scheme, both as a contractor and a consultant.

After a well-deserved period of rest and recuperation, Engr Sulu returned to the UK, put on his safety boots and helmet and founded Kaidy Engineering and Environmental Services Ltd, to give it its full name. It has since worked on construction projects in the fields of geotechnical engineering, railways, mechanical and electrical installation, environmental engineering, highways, drainage, water supply and wastewater disposal, flood alleviation, demolition, new-build reinforced concrete, timber frame and steel frame buildings (commercial, house and hotel refurbishment), temporary works design, waste-to-energy and solar power generation.
